Introduction
The Philippine ESL market is rapidly growing. Until now there has been an ad hoc unregulated establishments of language schools. Koreans, trying to cash in on an unregulated market, have bought lower standards to the Philippines by establishing both illegal schools and schools that are not based on good practices. More recently, Chinese and Japanese business men have likewise come to the Philippines to open language schools. They have but one desire- make fast money -and teaching standards are not a consideration.
Korean employers are also notorious for their very bad treatment of professional Philippine teachers. The establishment of Philippine TESOL will put an end to this Korean wave that has seen English education in Korea result in thousands of unprofessional run schools and universities.
It is hoped that the power of the Dollar which the Koreans have bought to the Philippines will not subvert good language learning practices.
